    • The James M. Dennis family moved before 1840 to Morgan Co., IL. The family probably returned to Overton before 1845 as both are listed in the Bethel Church Membership list. Listed in the Overton Co., TN 1850 census. Moved back to Morgan Co., IL ca. 1854. Two sons stayed in Morgan and Macoupin Counties, IL and two moved on to Kansas. James M and wife Sarah moved back to Morgan Co., IL before 1860.

      No direct documetion on the connection between Levi Dennis b. 1778 MD and his sons: James M; John ; Gabriel Dennis; and William Gene Dennis. Levi's brothers provided help in identifying their off spring. James left a will naming all of his children. Levi's brother John's family provided documentation in the form of a petition for free land in 1908.
      The remaining known grandsons of John Tennison are by default assigned to Levi, as they were born and raised in Overton County, TN with the other Dennis family members. WE have receive DNA confirmation that son Levi H. Dennis b. ca. 1815 is part of our Dennis Family.
