- Some children of John Sims Tennison were born in Amherst Co., VA. The family moved from Virginia to Green Co., KY. before the 1817 Green Co., KY Tax List. The tax list listed 53 acres and 3 horses.
In 1840 his sons were listed in Taylor Co., KY. Taylor County was made from Green Co., KY so they may not actually have moved.
There are very few documents from Levi Sims Tennison. Some researchers list Levi Sims' son Gideon as the son of John B. Tennison. John B. Tennison, (son of Ignatius Tennison from Caswell Co., NC.) lists his children in his will. By the time of John B. Tennison's will, Gideon was living in Sumner county, TN. This could be used as a argument of why Gideon was not listed as a descendant of John B. Tennison from Caswell Co., NC.
Some researchers state that Levi Sims Tennison was in Buncombe, Co. NC in 1820 at age of 68. I do not believe this to be true. Levi died in Green Co., KY in 1837. I do believe that the Buncombe Co., NC Levi is another member of our family.
Some researchers name Levi Tennison's wife as Elizabeth HAUN.
DNA has connected this line to our family and given that all other Tennison families of this time period in Green Co., KY were also from our family most researchers concur that John Sims of Amherst County, VA and Levi Sims that moved from Amherst Co., VA to Green Co., KY are in the correct father-son relationship and part of our family. The reason for this explanation is that John Sims' father, Henry Tennison was a brother to Ignatious Tennison [b. 1695] thus John Sims was a cousin to the young Ignatius Nevitte Tennison family who relocated to Green Co, KY in early 1800s.
The older Ignatius Tennison had two sons: the Ignatius N. who moved to Green County, and the second, John Tennison / Dennis that died in Caswell Co. NC in 1808. John Tennison's oldest son was named Levi and he used both names Tennison and DENNIS in much of the court documents in Caswell Co., NC. He should not be confused with the Levi Sims Tennison found in Green Co., KY. [Some information from researcher, Ken Miller]
