    • The James Thaxton family moved to Dent Co., MO before the 1860 census. It is not known if the oldest son moved with the family. George definitely ended up back in Overton County, TN where he married and raise his family.
      It should be noted that this George played an important part in preserving the genealogy of our Dennis family. In 1909 George W. Layfayette Dennis filed an application for free Indian Land through a government program. His address was listed as Allons, Overton County, TN. He was 90 years old. He stated that his father was James T. Dennis born Overton Co., TN. His mother Lucinda Hunter Dennis born in Knox County, TN. He listed one brother and four sisters. He listed his grandparents as John Dennis and Polly Dennis, "maiden name Arnet". The question concerning the birthplace of his grandparents was answered "John James Caswell Co., NC."
