  Daughter of William Cheatwood and Jean Flournoy. Besty was the third wife of John Tennison. They had five children. After John Tennison death 1808 she married Edmund Lyon in 1811 and had several more children. Edmund and Besty moved to Overton County, TN where the older sons of John Tennison had moved. All used the surname Dennis when they moved to Overton County, TN. One of the major documents used to prove that the "Dennis men in Overton Co. were indeed the decedents of John Tennison who died in 1808 Caswell Co., was a bill of sale in which Elizabeth Lyons, "widow of John Tennison" of Overton county was named.
