Notes - What was this man's name? Several civil war documents were signed James Jesse Dennis, while others signed Jesse Dennis. Could his given name have been James, but he prefered to use his middle name? Jesse was a popular Dennis name during his era. So, was his name James Jesse, or Jesse James?
Birth date and Mother question. 1850 Census gives birth date as abt 1839. Find-A-Grave has it as 1841? Death certificate gives mothers maiden name as Hughes?
1850 census shows him living with Father, Jesse Dennis, b: 1803, and mother Rebecca Fisher and a age of 11. Jesse and Rebecca married 27 Oct 1840.
Jesse married prior to Nancy (Hughes) Allen, 5 Jun 1835.
Seems to me that his mother was Nancy Hughes not Rebecca Fisher.
